COMMUNITY AWARD SCHEME FOR SCHOOLS

The Lions in wishing to encourage the younger members of our society to be involved with service to the community have initiated an annual award scheme for schools.
In addition to a trophy that is to be kept at the school, each award recipient receives a £25 book token.
The Head Teachers, staff and pupils of the Dorchester Middle School and the Puddletown Middle School have fully supported this initative.
The pupil chosen to receive this annual award is elected by the pupils and staff of the school.

The winners for 2008 are -
Dorchester Middle School.
Paris Misailidis for his help and involvement with WOW, with the stage sets and younger members of the group.

Puddletown Middle School.
Emily Wride for her service to the school and community

The Lionistic year July 2008 to June 2009

Andy Rose has taken over the role of President for the Lions Club for the year 2008/2009.

Andy will continue to support the local community and is very keen to have closer links with organisations or groups especially those involved with young people and persons who have a disability.

He is also making arrangments to ensure that the role of LIONS, what they DO and stand for is better understood.

EYE GLASS RECYCLING

The Lions Club of Dorchester wish to thank and acknowledge the support given by our local opticians -

Specsavers, South Street,
Insight, Tudore Arcade,
I J Brown, High West Street,
Scrivens, South Street,
Andrew Care, South Street,
Buy Specs Direct, Nappers Court, and
Sproston & Bowden, High West Street.

The Lions collect the eye galsses on a regular basis, and then each April they are sent to a recycling centre where they are cleaned and classified by prescription.

The eye glasses are then distrubuted to those in need by Lion volunteers and other organisations hosting optical missions in developing countries.

Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and continue to fight the problem with the Recycle For Sight program.

In April 2008 we were able to send 3100 eye glasses for recycling.
